The care journey — what patients experienced at each stage
How this patient found the surgeon was not stated in their response.
The consultation was professional, efficient and straight forward as I had done all the work up prior to seeing Dr Rowlands. He was calm and patient and did not hesitate to suggest a laparoscopy based on my symptoms and previous medical history. I had wasted many years in the public health system with no answers and I felt he was compassionate towards my experience and did not want to waste any more of my time. As there was no prior confirmation of endometriosis we did not speak in depth on this particular condition, other than he felt he was confident he would find something. I did not have to convince him to offer me exploration surgery as we were both in agreement that this was the next step. He respected this is what I needed and wanted at this time given how debilitating the symptoms were on my quality of life.

What could have been better
“Overall my experience with Dr Rowlands and his team, as well as Glengarry Private Hospital was positive. I felt heard, believed and supported throughout. Communication was clear and all costs outlined prior to appointments and surgery. Dr Rowlands visited me the day after surgery (even though it was his day off and had been enjoying some leisure time) which I appreciated. His bedside manner was good and he listened with concern and curiosity. I did note however that my final appointment with him took a turn due to an inappropriate suggestion to help manage pain/symptoms with alcohol. It felt dismissive and harmful given the negative impact that would have on my specific symptoms. I understand people are human and make mistakes and I do hope he doesn’t repeat this as advice to any future patients.”
